Monolayer or Cotegran coated facade
This sort of facades usually present problems such as leaking, armor degradation, peeling, etc. Some of this facades are normally painted or waterproofed with water-repellent for an aesthetic improvement.
These facades are painted or waterproofed to improve the aesthetic of the building.
The facades painted with waterproof paint, produce the effect known as "Vapor barrier". That means that the rainwater does not enter in the house but the humidity could condense above the wall if the insulation of the air chamber is deficient. In this case, the humidity could easily come in the house through doors or windows of the building.
To paint or waterproof a facade of a building could sometimes cause a significant increase of the wall degradation due mortar carbonation, besides causing condensation problems in the building.
The water absorption is produced by capillarity, hygroscopic absorption and condensation. That means, that these facades would get wet at night due the high levels of humidity.
The main thing about these facades is that they do not present construction issues. As they are going to get wet either by rain or night dew, etc. It is important that the humidity doesn´t infiltrate in the house. An aeration pipette, paint or water-repellent would not resolve the construction issues of the house. In relation to it, we would like to point the following associated defects:
- Moisture on the walls.
- Cracks and chips.
- Oxidation of the concrete reinforcement.
- Formation of salt stains, rust, dirt ,etc.
- Moss, lichen.
- Chemical corrosion due acid rain.
- Destruction of the facade in areas with these pathologies.
Water absorption by capillarity.
There are small capillaries (less than 10-7 m), which do not allow the water movement but the air movement. The capillaries with a diameter size of between 10-4m and 10-7m allow the water movement. The capillaries with a diameter greater than 10-4m present direct flirtation problems.
The coefficient calculation of water absorption is executed according to the ISO 15148 international standard.
A wall covered with Monolayer or Cotegran has a big capillarity. In this case, it would not be necessary to make aeration pipettes, as the air passes freely through the wall. If the wall would be painted, the aeration pipettes would be necessary.
Hygroscopic absorption by capillarity.
This feature is recognized by the water vapor absorption. The amount of absorbed water depends on many factors. The most important ones are related to the humidity, the temperature decrease and the chemical composition of the mortar.
Our treatment seals the capillary network to prevent leaks by rain and also condensation.
You can see more examples of how our treatment behaves in different types of facades in the section reference works. For more information please inquiry in the Contact section.
